Dan's Visit

The last week in January, Dan Ehrman came to work with Keith while Bev was back in Nellysford. Dan really got into the Habitat construction, even though Keith felt "obligated" to
take him out to hear live music almost every night.

Our first company

We started the new year off with Keith's daughters, Kiran, Becky and Rachel, granddaughter Madeline and Becky's husband, Dennis all arriving in New Orleans on January 3rd. The adults had a great day working on a Habitat for Humanity house in East New Orleans. Brian, the Habitat supervisor who worked with them, was impressed with their skills and work ethic, not to mention their ability to have fun. While they were working, Bev and Madeline enjoyed the morning at the Aquarium falling in love with the river otters.

During their visit, Keith took everyone on a tour of his October neighborhood at Camp Hope and the Katrina devastation that is still present around the city. Of course we also strolled the French Quarter, ate beignets at Cafe du Monde, and enjoyed a delicious meal at K-Paul's.

Arrival in New Orleans

New Year's Day found us moving into our "new" home on Orchid Street in the Mid-City area of New Orleans. This area had several feet of water during Katrina, but fortunately, many of our neighbors have been able to return home and renovate their houses, as indicated by the sign across the street.

Heading South

Our year of adventure started on December 31, 2006 when we left the farm and headed south to New Orleans. This was to be our year to update our passports and see the world, but after Keith spent the month of October building houses for Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans our plans changed. We decided to rent a 100-year-old shotgun house in New Orleans until the end of April so that we could both help with the rebuilding and could encourage our families to join us as their schedules allowed.
